Let’s explore the meaning and learn Portuguese with music
Music is one of the most powerful and enjoyable ways to learn Portuguese naturally.
When you listen, sing along, and understand the lyrics, your brain connects emotion, rhythm, and memory. This mix makes learning smoother and more lasting.
At Papagaio School, we believe music is not only about memorizing words but about feeling the language, understanding its sounds, and living its culture through every verse.
Grammar Notes Before You Start
Before completing the activities, take a look at these useful grammar notes inspired by the lyrics of Velha Infância.
In this song, many verbs appear in the first person singular, in the present tense. This is a great way to see how verbs change their endings in Portuguese.
For example, sentir → eu sinto, seguir → eu sigo, and ver → eu vejo. These are all regular everyday forms that show how we talk about our feelings and actions in the present moment.
The expression com você can also appear as contigo. It has the same meaning but is used more often in some regions of Brazil and sounds slightly more natural or intimate in songs.
In the vocabulary, we find criança, meaning child, and infância, meaning childhood — both directly related to the song’s title.
Some nouns also appear in singular and plural forms, like o olho / os olhos (eye / eyes) and o pé / os pés (foot / feet).
Pay attention to two interesting words that describe light and darkness: escuridão means darkness, while clarão means flash of light or brightness.
